*Leave bandage on for 3-4 hours (overnight for larger pieces).
*When bandage is removed, wash tattoo well with scent-free soap and water. Go in small circles with your fingertips, do not use a facecloth. Pat dry with a clean designated tattoo towel.
*Leave tattoo open, do not cover it back over. Wear loose clothing over it, preferably cotton so it can breathe.
*After 24 hours from the initial washing, start using a little bit of scent-free moisturizer (I highly recommend Aveeno). Use sparingly.
*Wash and moisturize once or twice daily for about a week to a week and a half. At about day 4, the tattoo should start flaking off, don't be alarmed to see little colored bits come off.
Each person heals differently and this can vary from the typical range, depending on many factors including placement, style, skin type, etc.
Treat it as any open wound. Your body can heal itself, you just want to help it along keeping it clean and moisturized.
While that tattoo is healing:
-No soaking or swimming. Showers are fine, but don't let the water bead directly on the tattoo. No hot tubs, pools, etc. for at least 3 weeks. It is an open wound and should be treated as such.
-Do not scratch the tattoo, it will most likely become itchy as it flakes, just soothe it with the moisturizer.
-Keep away from dirty environments, such as camping or direct contact with animals.
-Keep out of direct sunlight until it is healed... at least 3 weeks, then please always use sunscreen while out in the sun. UV rays are very good at fading tattoos!
Regular moisturizing will help keep your tattoo looking great!
